Summary

Hydrodynamic extreme response analysis of a floating docking pontoon in a harbour.

Introduction

A diffraction radiation analysis was carried out for the structure to obtain its hydrodynamic coefficients. A mesh convergence study was performed to determine the sensitivity of the coefficients to the numerical settings. These coefficients were then used in time domain simulations, which were carried out to compute the response of the floating docking pontoon, fixed to the seabed via two piles. An extreme wave for the site was computed in order to obtain the extreme response of the system in terms of motions, accelerations, and inertial loads at critical components.

Results

The maximum accelerations and inertial loads of the structure were obtained, including the maximum loads transmitted to the piles, the behavior of the rubber fenders connecting the pontoon to the piles, and the accelerations transmitted to an electric charging tower installed in the pontoon.
