The beginning
blueOASIS was founded in October 2021 by Guilherme Beleza Vaz with the mission of accelerating ocean sustainability through R&D and innovation. It all started with a team of 4 dedicated employees and 2 external partners, bringing the Dutch approach of applying research to solve real ocean problems.
Providing expertise in ocean engineering
Secured a major PRR project, supported several EU project trials, and delivered targeted R&D consultancy projects on CFD. Launched RAINDROP, an open-source underwater acoustic modelling framework. Opened an office in the Netherlands.
The start of Hydrotwin
blueOASIS started Hydrotwin, a groundbreaking, scalable, underwater acoustic smart monitoring technology. Established the first HPC partnerships across Europe.
The first round of investment
blueOASIS was invested by Portugal Ventures and Dexterity. Expanded to Azores, establishing the company headquarters in Horta, Faial. Provided high-tech ocean engineering and underwater acoustics services to clients, including Iberdrola, DAMEN, Jan De Nul, PLOCAN, MARIN, among others. Selected for multiple Horizon Europe projects such as EU-FLOATFARM and EU-PHAROS. Deployed the first Hydrotwin unit in Faial, Azores and performed test deployments at the NATO REPMUS exercise.
Focus on Hydrotwin development
Hydrotwin was launched in January 2025 and has been scaling up and growing its international client base ever since. A team of 26 full-time experts is focused on advancing the capabilities of the Digital Twin of the Ocean (DTO). The first HT-V deployment took place at REPMUS in 2025. blueOASIS secured investment from Insight Ventures at the end of 2025.
From today to the end of 2026
100 Hydrotwins sold, ready to be deployed and operational. blueOASIS counts with 30 full-time experts now. Supporting the implementation of a pioneering centre for research and innovation in underwater acoustics in the Azores (NAAC – North Atlantic Acoustic Center), positioning the region as an international hub for ocean science and technology.
