What we measure
Acoustics

The ocean is full of noise and sound. Beneath the waves, where visibility is limited and conditions are constantly changing, acoustics is the most reliable way to understand what is happening. Hydrotwin turns complex underwater soundscape into real-time awareness, helping us to detect, classify and interpret activity below the surface.
Distributed acoustic intelligence
Hydrotwin replaces expensive manned vessels and traditional hydrophones with affordable, easy-to-deploy autonomous listening stations, enabling coverage that was previously impossible.
Edge AI
Processes sound on the device (edge computing), sending the answers (alerts & classifications) to shore via cellular, ethernet or satellite communications.
Affordable
Deploy dozens of autonomous listening nodes for the price of one legacy system.
Real-time
Instant, automated detection of threats or marine mammals, anywhere on Earth.
Proprietary AI for underwater acoustics
Built in-house, our neural networks are engineered for low energy consumption and to efficiently process raw underwater audio without compromising computing performance.

Big Data Ownership
Millions of minutes of underwater acoustic recordings collected. Dataset expands continuously as Hydrotwin deployments increase.

Training AI models
Large in-house team of acoustics experts training AI models optimised for low-power edge inference.
From detection to audio
- Open any unit to view its real-time acoustic metrics summary.
- Listen to the live audio instantly for a fast confirmation.
- Go from a detection to the respective audio file and spectrogram within a few clicks.
- Deep dive on metocean data.
RAINDROP: Real-time underwater acoustic maps
RAINDROP is Hydrotwin's in-house acoustic modelling framework for generating holistic underwater acoustic maps in real-time.
By combining complex marine data, including bathymetry, metocean and Automatic Identification System (AIS) information, with normal-mode acoustic propagation solvers, RAINDROP delivers accurate, real-time acoustic marine assessments, crucial for environmental studies, strategic planning and scientific research.

NATO military exercise
In September 2023, RAINDROP was successfully deployed during the NATO military exercise REPMUS 2023, organized by the Portuguese Navy in Setúbal, Portugal. Real-time noise maps were produced, that enabled the underwater noise footprint of the exercise to be assessed.
